Sue's Story
Life
I got married in 1965 after a year of school at the University of Alabama, we had one daughter, and we moved to Mobile when she was a year old. We divorced in '79.
Then in '80 I found my True Prince Charming and married him in '81. We lived in the Mobile area for 11 years, always wishing for a place in the country. We worked for several years designing the house we wanted, and then we bought some land, 65 acres of woods, and finally moved to the country in '92.
We got to build our dream house we had designed, a big old 2-story country house with a metal roof, 2 porches, wood siding, and built in the style of the old "dogtrot" houses like you used to see out in the country, and we are happy as clams living here in the middle of these woods. We like the peace and quiet and all the wildlife we see and hear.
We've had a big garden every year, and planted fruit trees and blueberry bushes and fig trees. We canned our vegetables and fruit every year, but my husband had knee replacement surgery last month so we are skipping the big garden this year. We'll have one again next year, though. We love watching the miracle of a tiny seed turning into a big plant that gives us food.
We have raised chickens and guineas, and thought seriously about getting a cow for milk, but were waiting for retirement to do that. Now that we are retired we may start raising a few animals and get some more chickens. It's hard work if you do it right, but it is so rewarding.

Auburn and went to work as an engineer for Mercedes. She married her husband in 1994 and they have blessed us with 4 grandchildren, and they are my heart! She left Mercedes after their second child was born to be a full time mom, which she loves. We visit them as often as we can and are very proud of her and her husband for the way they live their life together, and the way they take care of the children.
I reconnected in 1998 with a very dear friend who I had met in 1967, but I had lost track of her for a few years. We revived our friendship through email, and eventually we wrote a book together. We are getting it ready to submit to a few publishers, and we hope to get it in print soon. It's fiction, but the idea of it evolved from things my great-grandmother wrote more than 80 years ago about her own life.
I spend a lot of time on my computer and like keeping in touch with folks by email. I'd like to hear from my classmates and find out how everyone else's life has turned out.
I love being here in the country in my dream house, and sitting on my porch in the swing and being in the woods and close to nature. My life may not sound too exciting to most people, but it's perfect for me, and if anyone else has this kind of life (or even if you don't) I would surely love to hear from you.
Oh P. S. As of April 2016 our book is published and available on Amazon.com in e-book form And paperback. It is "Southern Porch Settin' ' by Reed Tait (our pen name), and we are very proud of our little story...
